All About The Pandora


In this section we will explore the Pandora UMPC device ...

Technical Specifications
Core CPU - Texas Instruments ARM® Cortex™-A8 600Mhz+ CPU (Overclockable to 900MHZ+)
Graphics CPU - PowerVR SGX GPU, will handle OpenGL ES 2.0, several million polygons per second!!
System RAM - 128MB DDR SDRAM
Flash RAM - 256MB Internal Flash (used for storing OS and Apps then SD Card for more!
Display - 800x480 4.3" 16.7 million colours touchscreen LCD
Storage - Dual SDHC card slots - thats x2 32GB possible giving 64GB!!
Controls - Joypad PLUS Dual Analoge controls
Keyboard - 43 button QWERTY and numeric keypad
Other Interfaces - Bluetooth, High Speed USB 2.0, SVideo TV output
Battery Type - Removeable, 4000MaH battery, chargeable via USB

Operating System(s)
The core kernel for the pandora will support linux 2.6x. It is unknown yet as to which flavour of Linux the device will ship with, it is anticipated that it will be OpenPandora which will be compatible with Debian ArmTel packages.

However the device is flashable which means you can apply whichever flavour of Linux you want (making some tweaks along the way!!).

November 2008

Pre-Orders are now being undertaken for the pandora, from what we understand, the initial worldwide release of the device will be limited to 3000 units for Qtr 4 2008, with more to follow in 2009.
